ABOUT US

Houndstooth Photography is the enterprise of two professional photographers with a passion for animals. Its owners, Gracy Obuchowicz and Lara Shipley, are eager to bring their collective photography experience to capture your pet's unique personality in a series of elegant, artistic portraits.

Lara is an award-winning photographer with credits at newspapers and magazines in the United States and abroad. Her work has appeared in publications including The Atlantic Online, Mother Jones, La Nacion, and the Miami Herald. She came to Washington DC to work as a photography producer for National Geographic Online and as a commercial freelance photographer. Her love of animals dates as far back as her first dog, an energetic German Shepherd named Bart.

Gracy has photographed Peruvian life for a number of years, and recently served as a member of the Peace Corps Peru. She was also the photographer for a Fulbright-funded documentary about maternal health care in the Quechan indigenous culture. She currently teaches photography to at-risk youth and people living with cancer in the Washington DC area. She often escapes city life to take her family's beloved Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Catherine and Sasha, on long walks in the Virginia countryside.

We combine the sensibility of classic portrait photographers, such as Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz, with a love of animals and a keen attention to color, light, and emotion. Our mission is to capture the unique spirit and personality of your pet with photographs that please you—the pet lover who is also an art lover.
